The Mallard Fire Department consists of a Volunteer Fire Chief and firefighters. The Fire Chief has Level 1 International certification. They will respond to fires in a defensive mode. The Community Fire Hall is equipped with a fire truck referred to as a rapid response unit. Portable forestry style equipment is available for grass and brush fires.

The Waterhen Fire Department operates in an advanced offensive mode. Fire Fighters have Level 1 qualifications with skills in water rescue, ground search, vehicle extrication, etc. Phone 9-1-1 for this emergency service.

Medical response is based in Waterhen, with a full ambulance service providing transport to Winnipegosis or

Mallard is served by the MTS Waterhen Exchange. Manitoba Telecom Services provides individual line service and digital switching with toll-free calling to Camperville, Dauphin, Ethelbert, Fork River, Gilbert Plains, Grandview, Ochre River, Pine River, Rorketon, Sifton and Winnipegosis. Our postal office is located in Waterhen. Community mail is delivered and picked up 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday). Post boxes are located in Mallard outside at the Mallard Council Office. You can reach our Post Mistress at (204) 628-3458.
A deep well provides the community water supply. The water is chlorinated, and piped water is distributed throughout the community.
A solid-waste disposal site exists near the community with weekly garbage pickup by the Public Works employee. The solid waste site is open 2 days per week.
Sewage is colleted by pipe throughout the community and sent to a sewage treatment plant (SBR). There are a few houses within the community that have their own water wells. Raw sewage is hauled to Waterhen Community Sewage Lagoon.
Community members recycle aluminum cans, cardboard/paper and plastic. There are recycle bins located in the community.
Waterhen School teaches Nursery - Grade 9. Our school has 20 staff and 84 students. Mallard students are bused to Waterhen School.
